Timesworld desk: Police have detained former Vice-chairman of Upazila Parishad and also a local Awami League leader Ahsan Hahib Masud over the murder of lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 constituency Manjurul Islam Liton.
Ahsan Habib Masud, vice-president of Awami Sechchasebak League of Sundarganj upazila unit, was held from his residence in Sundarganj municipality area on Sunday morning.
Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Thana Atiur Rahman said police detained Ahsan Habib to interrogate about the lawmaker murder.
With the detention of Ahsan, the number of suspects picked up by law enforcers rises to 53, including six members of Jamaat-e-Islami.
On December 31, 2016, unidentified assailants shot Liton at his home. He was pronounced dead at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after a couple of hours.
